Well, it won't be photobucket.

While I'm grateful for them hosting my images, I finally got an answer about their plus account & advertising. Basically, if the person visiting is not logged in to a plus/pro account then they will see adverts, and since the major reason for me to pay for an account was to prevent that happening then it's a loser for me.

I looked briefly at smugmug, but it was pay-only, and I'm not interested in trying it that way. 500px is image olympics and flickr are doing some odd things with their accounts/site (according to some flickr pro users I know). We'll have to wait & see.

  1. I'm not a huge fan of Flickr's new photostream format, but that might just take some getting used to. And now more pictures can be seen with less clicking-through.

They've upped their free space up to a Terabyte. I don't quite know what his means for people like me who have been paying for 2gb (or whatever it is) per month (but I can't be bothered to research it at this point).

Why don't you like Flickr again?

  2. Marc, it was because of the slowness, click-throughs required to see images, the slowness, the way every gallery I ever visited seemed designed to prevent you seeing the images, only feeding them to you one at a time, and the slowness, and the way images were always small, and the slowness. That and blind prejudice after becoming rapidly fed up with them in the beginning.

I briefly visited a pro account of an acquaintance from a bass forum, and was surprised at how much like photobucket it felt, but without adverts. In all seriousness, I wonder if the terabyte storage is aimed at the instagrammer with image-diarrhoea? Maybe I should forgive them & take another look?
